According to report by ScanNewsNigeria, the sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Mohammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has summoned the Executive Governor of Benue state, Chief Samuel Ortom on his refusal of accepting cattle colony in Benue state as proposed by the federal government.
Governor Ortom has maintained his stand on Anti Open Grazing law which was implemented by his administration to end farmers/ herders crisis in state, he maintaned that Benue state will never accept cattle colony as far as he is the Governor of the state.
Reacting to the development, Aoraan Festus cmp a concern member of the public wrote:
“The sultan of sokoto who is a Traditional ruler not in any way connected to Benue state, has summoned an elected State Governor who is voted by his people, to rule, defend and stand for them.
“Between 2013 to 2018 Benue State lost thousands souls in the cause of Fulani attacks, no one heard a word from the Sultan condemning the ugly act by his fellow people on the indigenes of Benue state.
“If Sultan of Sokoto will not forget that, a Governor of a state has power over his state, a Governor of a state has no connection with traditional institution ,Under What powers would the Sultan of Sokoto summon any executive governor of a State?
“A governor which is not under the poltical and religious sphere of both the caliphate and Islam of which he is their supreme leader, because Benue State is separate and distinct from the sphere of influence of the Sultan of sokoto.
“I want to make it clearly to the Sultan of sokoto that, Benue State which is located in Middle-belt of Nigeria, comprises of Tiv, Idoma, Igede which non is a Hausa speaking language will never be answerable to Sultan, we have the Tor Tiv, the Ochi idoma which we are answerable to, not Sultan or Emir.
“The summon by the Sultan of Sokoto is best to describe as, Laughable and ludicrous summon.
