2019: Concerned Nigerians Tell Buhari To Heed Obasanjo’s Advice

By Luminous Jannamike
ABUJA – A civil society group, Concerned Nigerians, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to heed the advice given him by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo to refrain from contesting the 2019 presidential election.

It said the only way President Buhari can display any sort of love and patriotism for Nigeria that is on the verge of anarchy under his misrule is to bow-out of government in 2019.

In a statement signed Tuesday night by its convener, Deji Adeyanju, the group praised Obasanjo for speaking the truth, saying he spoke at no better time than now.

“We have read the statement written by former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, where he gave a withering assessment of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari with more than a sense of palpable relief that there are elders of this country who are willing to speak truth to power.

“In his statement, Chief Obasanjo stated the many obvious failings of the Buhari administration and their negative effects on all aspects of the Nigerian economy. We commend Chief Obasanjo for speaking the truth at a time when the Nigerian people are bearing the negative effects of the Buhari administration.

“We call on President Buhari to heed the advice given by Chief Obasanjo and refrain from contesting the 2019 presidential elections. This is the only way President Buhari can display any sort of love for a country that is creaking under the weight of his misrule.

“Anything short of this will lead to the Nigerian people delivering a withering and embarrassing defeat to the President Buhari next year. A word is enough for the wise,” the statement said.
