Re-arresting Nnamdi Kanu will jeopardize fragile peace – N’Delta group warns FG, condemns AGF’s comment

A Niger Delta Group under the aegies of the Foundation For Human Rights And Anti-Corruption Crusade, FHRACC, has warned that any moves by the Federal Government of Nigeria to re-arrest the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will not only be counter productive but will jeopardize the existing fragile peace in the country.

FHRACC National President, Alaowei Cleric, Esq, handed down the warning in statement signed and made available to DAILY POST.

“Any moves to arrest him will not only be counter productive but it will also jeopardize the existing fragile unity of the country.”

The group called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to jettison the planned re-arrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for the sake of peaceful co-existence of the country.

The group lambasted the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN for saying that the Federal Government failed to arrest Shettima and his group of Arewa Youths because of security reasons.

They said the statement made by the AGF was a flimsy excuse which exposed the fact that the southerners are no longer safe in the North as a result of the invidious quit notice handed down by the Arewa youths.

“The excuse given by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN, that the Federal Government failed to arrest Shettimah and his group of northern delinquents because of security reasons is most disappointing.”

They argued that, “the reason cannot hold water if the AGF failed to appreciate the fact that the Federal Government is stronger than any individual or group of persons in Nigeria.”

“Niger Delta people viewed the excuse of the Government which hitherto threatened to deal with hate speech perpetrators as a deliberate move to protect the northern coalition.”

“We can now believed that in this Country, some persons are above are the law. When Nigerian government become a toothless bulldog to its citizenry? Does it mean that these groups of delinquents can even wage war against the federation and Nigeria will fold it’s arms because they are powerful?”

“Is it not this same Government that hurriedly filed action in court to re-arrest Nnamdi Kanu for allegedly breaching his bail conditions? Is it not the same Government that is witch hunting the peace-loving Government Ekpemupolo even without committing any crime? Is it not this Government that has been invading Gbaramatu Kingdom at will for no justifiable reason? Is it not this same Government that kidnapped Ijaw human rights activists and other prominent stakeholders in the Niger Delta struggle such as Com. Daniel Ezekiel, Bonny Gawei and many others without being tried for any known offense and their whereabouts not known to anybody?”

“Is Malami telling Nigerians that there is no security risk when it comes to southern Nigerians? Now we know the reason for the selective prosecution of perceived enemies of the Government.”

The group also called on the Federal Government to immediately release all the “Ijaw prisoners of conscience” in its custody.

The group stated that there is no justification for the Government to keep Niger Deltans incarcerated in its custody without being tried for any known offense, while some law breakers are given royal treatments.
