JUST IN!! ASUU back to indefinite strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday announced the commencement of indefinite strike with effect from Monday, 14th August, 2017.
The strike was to reawaken the consciousness of government to the welfare and funding of Nigeria university system, as well as complying with the previous agreements it entered with ASUU.

Its President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi who announced the development at a press conference in Abuja on Monday added that the decision was unanimously taken by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ASUU.
He highlighted several areas of contention where federal government has been found wanting in attending to the needs of the universities.
He added that the decision was based on a nationwide consultation with all branches of ASUU and other critical stakeholders that ended last Saturday.

He said: “The National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU made that decision to embark on that strike and it is total and comprehensive. While it lasts, there shall be no teaching, no examination, and no attendance of statutory meetings of any kind in any of our branches.”
The implications, Daily Sun learnt, was that schools would be shut down until the decision is reversed.
