Dr Olakunle Churchill and his Big Church Foundation donated brand new Mercedes Benz Ambulances, 1,000 fire extinguishers and 1,000 fire blankets to the Federal Fire Service (FFS) in Abuja.
He was accompanied by top celebrities from Nollywood and the music industry including Ayo Makun (AY), Waje, Mike Ezuruonye, TBoss, Victoria Kimani, Emma Nyra, Mamuze Twins, Charles Awurum, Praiz, Dennis Dooshima and others.
Presenting the materials to the FFS Comptroller-General, Joseph Anebi on Tuesday in Abuja, the Executive Director of the foundation, Olakunle Churchill said the items were meant to support the agency and boost its performance.
He described the donation as a token of his support for the FFS which he said was involved in saving lives and properties.
Anebi lauded Churchill for the donation, noting that no group had donated anything to the FFS in a long time, adding that the service has been incapacitated due to lack of funding to provide necessary life-saving facilities like ambulances.
“When we go for fire rescue, victims must be taken to the hospital but the service has been handicapped without an ambulance,” he stated.
The CG disclosed that the agency had placed orders for 23 fire engines, adding that five tankers were due for delivery by the vendors.
He explained that since he took over the FFS, he had rehabilitated some broken down fire engines to boost the capacity of the service.
Anebi described Churchill as a friend of the fire service and admonished other Nigerians to emulate his humanitarian gestures.
“If other NGOs are conscious of fire and relate with us as you (Churchill) do, Nigeria would be a safe place to live,”
