Obasanjo Explains How Farmers Can End Hunger In Nigeria By 2025

Obasanjo explains how farmers can end hunger in Nigeria by 2025
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo wants both states and the Federal Government to collaborate with farmers in a bid to end hunger in the country by year 2025.

The former President made the call at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, when members of the Egba Cluster Farming Initiative paid him a courtesy visit.

Obasanjo stated that as the chairman of Zero Hunger farmers’ organisation in Nigeria, it was the resolve of the group to achieve this feat through increased food production, thereby creating “a situation where no Nigerian goes to bed or walk about hungry again”.

He said if given support and encouragement, farmers could make food available and affordable to Nigerians, thereby creating food sufficiency in the country.

According to Obasanjo, “Governments can help the nation’s farmers meet the objective through policy and creation of a conducive environment that will encourage food production.”

The former President urged the delegation to first start the cluster farming with fish, poultry, cassava and rice farms that “are less demanding of facilities before venturing into tree crops that have long gestation period before harvest.”
