Exposed!! Biafra: How Kuje Prison officials caused Nnamdi Kanu’s ill health – Lawyer alleges

Counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, on Monday alleged that the operatives of

the Nigerian Prisons Service, NPS, are responsible for an ailment currently being suffered by his client.

The defence counsel told the court that the IPOB leader had a near death experience during a failed jail break in Kuje prison.

Against the backdrop of the incident, Ejiofor said Kanu can barely stand for a long time.

According to Ejiofor, ”My lord, during the incident, canisters of poisonous substances were thrown into the first defendant’s cell.

“The allegation against the first defendant has since gained international attention. The first defendant is ready to stand trial to clear his name from this bogus allegation against him.”

The defend counsel also told the court that he has an application dated Thursday, March 2, 2017 bordering on the bail of his client.

Ejiofor argued that application is premised on Section 118 (2) of the Criminal procedure Act, Section 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act and section 158 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria as amended.

Praying the court to grant Kanu bail in liberal term, Ejiofor insisted that the charges against his client are empty and bear no weight as the proof of evidence is not strong enough to sustain the charges.

Also supporting Ejiofor’s prayer, a member of the defence team, Inalegwu Adoga told the court that prison officials were preventing defence team from seeing their client.

Adoga disclosed that he has being experiencing difficulty having visiting sessions with his client at the Kuje prison.

He said while it remained clear that the order was not made by the court, it was also important for the court to distance itself from such action by the secret police.

Adoga said, “On March 15, I went to see my client in Kuje Prison to prepare for his appearance in court and I was told by prison officials that Nnamdi Kanu and his group have been stopped from receiving visitors, including lawyers.

”I was told by the prison officials that the order was given by the Department of State Services DSS).

“My lord, it is important that the court distances itself from such. When a party in a matter begins to act differently like this, it means that something is fishy.”
