CONTROVERSIAL: Zakzaky In critical Condition- IMN

ZAKY

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) today alerted the authorities to the deteriorating health of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim Zakzaky.

In a petition to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Abuja, the IMN called on the commission to get the federal government to release Zakzaky to enable him seek medical attention over his condition.

The letter, which was signed by Ibrahim Jalo Abubakar, who journeyed from Soba in Kaduna State to Abuja to protest Zakzaky’s ordeal, says the sect leader has lost an eye, with the risk of losing the second one.

Zakzaky and his wife, Mallama Zeenah Ibrahim, were arrested following a confrontation between the group and soldiers which resulted in several deaths and destruction of properties on December 12 and 14, 2015.

The DSS claimed in a suit before the court that he is being held in protective custody.

“I request the noble commission to, as a matter of urgency, demand the relevant authorities to release Sayyid Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife to seek effective medical attention at his discretion in line with his fundamental human right as a bonafide citizen of this country,” he said.

Abubakar said he trekked the 330 km to express his “agony, deep resentment and absolute disagreement with the atrocities committed by the Nigerian Army against Sayyid Ibrahim Zakzaky, his family and followers.”

Responding, the special assistant to the Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Lambert Opara assured Abubakar and other members of IMN that the commission will ensure justice in the matter.
