DISTURBING REPORT “PART-A”: HOW APPOINTED PROJECT SUPERVISORS OF NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA “ABAGANA STUDY CENTRE” MOLEST AND DESTROY STUDENTS CAREER
A lot of lecturers in the Nigerian universities notably the public ones like National open university of Nigeria Abagana study centre have turned themselves into the demigods oppressing the students, though they are rather supposed to inspire and empower these promising young student within and outside the classroom.
A report emanating from national open university of Nigeria Abagana study centre alleges how lecturers appointed by the institution to supervise final year student in their thesis/projects ends up frustrating and destroying their career.
In this exclusive report authoritatively written by various student who were victims of molestation, and frustration of these supervisors has it that even the management of the study centre do over look students ordeal even when they tables it to the DIRECTOR who serves as the head of the institution.
According to one of the female victims who do not want her name in prints for safety but may willingly do so if needs be has this to say:
“ I am a victims of a wicked supervisor drafted to national open university of Nigeria, Abagana study centre. I was given a letter of supervision to give to the man who will work as my project supervisor on February 6TH 2016. My first visit to the man happens in “SCHOOL ” where the man asks me to visit him, after that particular visit, he never allows me to visit him in the school again. He insist our visits should be in one popular hotel in Awka metropolis which I politely objected.
Since then, the man has been frustrating my life, despite when I told him am a married woman he never quits. At first, after I conducts a research on my proposed topics, he ardently instructs me to type from chapter one to three covering “ Background to the study, Review of related literature and methodology” when I finished on the work, I put him on call and he delays my seeing him for up to three good solid months. One faithful day, I called him and he demands to see me inside the school vicinity. when I showed up, with me was the chapter one to three, immediately he sees it, he shouted at me, asking me to go and start afresh and this time around with a pen on paper method. i wept bitterly and he left me and drove off in his blue corolla motor.
After working on the instructions he gave me, I called him again and this time he delays for up to two months before asking me to come to AWKA in a local restaurants and see him. When I got there, he started to question me on why am so stubborn , he said so far as he is in charge, he must have advantage on me. I told him am a married woman and holds my marriage in prestige. He quickly told me that him too is married with childrens and there is nothing wrong on what he is asking me to do. After I refuses, he ask me to go and work from one to five and bring to him without even looking on the previous chapter one to three I wrote.
even as at the time of filling this report to IgbereTvnews Reporter my work is yet to be submitted to the school authority for final submission to LAGOS, which has affected my graduation, causing me to spend extra one year in school.
However another report that was given by a FINAL year male student who do not want his name in print, but may willingly do so if needs be has this to say:
The frustration given to me by my supervisor in NOUN Awka study centre last year even prompt me to attempt suicide, I came from a poor home, am the one that cater for my family, having lost my dad two years ago things became so much hard on me. Around February/march last year I was assigned a supervisor to assist me in my project. Instead of the supervisor to attend to me, he demands I paid him a tone of 50,000 naira. I complaint to the management and they never call the man to question him. I later sweat 50,000 which I paid to the man before he score me .
Another disturbing report from a family man who is a student of NOUN Awka study centre, has this to say:
Last year after my proposed project topic was approved and a supervisor assigned to me, my supervisor never take it easy at all, when I visited him at his office in Onitsha, with me was a #5000 token which I put in a brown envelop to give him as an appreciation. Immediately I got there and present it to him, little did I know that the man is a bribe taker, he accepts the envelop in my presence and opens it, when he counted the money and discovers that it was 5000, he immediately throws it on my face telling me he is not a professor of 5000. Since then, he never touched my project, even when I laid a complaint to the management , they never investigate into the matter.
Further investigation conducted by our reporter confirms that There are a lot of atrocities that appointed project supervisor of National open university of Nigeria Abagana study centre are committing ranging from illegal demands of money, sexual harassments, lack of quality guideline to students .
The worst of it all is that, the management are in total support of this atrocities by refusing to delve into investigation and bring the erred lecturers to book.
