Methodist Archbishop Blasts Buhari Over Massacre of Biafrans Celebrating Trump’s Inauguration in P/Harcourt
As anger and condemnation continue to trail the killing of unarmed Biafra agitators that took place recently in Port Harcourt, the Rives State capital, the Federal Government has been urged without delay to punish the killers of unarmed IPOB members who were celebrating the inauguration of the United States President, Donald Trump on January 20.
This call was made by the Archbishop of Methodist Archdiocese of Port Harcourt, the Most Rev. Sunday Agwu while condemning the alleged massacre of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Agwu, who spoke at the annual thanksgiving service of the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the Banham Memorial Methodist Cathedral, Port Harcourt, said it was unacceptable for security operatives to kill peaceful and unarmed protesters.
He, however, appealed to the country’s security agencies, especially the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police to stop an abuse of their uniforms and the weapons in their oppressive onslaught against defenseless Nigerians.
Security operatives allegedly opened fire on IPOB members at St. John’s area along Aba Road, killing and injuring some of them in the process, before proceeding to charge 45 arrested members to court three days after.
The Archbishop said: “The other day, we had about the killings of members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who were celebrating the inauguration of Donald Trump as the President of the United States of America.
“The police said they did not obtain permission before embarking on the march. Does it mean that Nigerian citizens do not have right again for peaceful assembly?
“Every Nigerian citizen has fundamental human rights to move around. Those who killed members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Port Harcourt should be brought to book.”
