Ndubusi Okonkwo, a 38-year-old man, has been sentenced to death by hanging, for armed robbery by Justice Kudirat Akano of Osun High Court on Thursday in Osogbo.
Vanguard reports that Okonkwo was tried on two-count of conspiracy and armed robbery.
The prosecutor, Mr Abiodun Alarape, told the court that Okonkwo was found in possession of dangerous weapons and a Mercedes Benz car on Aug. 5, 2014 at about 10.30 p.m. at Isida Street, Ilesa.
Alarape, state counsel in the Ministry of Justice, said the vehicle had a registration number AAA 75 C and other particulars which the convict was unable to give account of.
He also told the court that the accused person conspired with others now at large to steal the vehicle before he was apprehended.
The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to sections 6 (1) (a) and 5 (1) of the Robbery and Fire Arm (Special Provision) Cap R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The counsel to the accused, Mr Akponta Oku, however, pleaded with the judge to temper justice with mercy in her judgment. Delivering judgment, Akano said the prosecutor had proved his case beyond any reasonable doubt.
Akano said the convict was guilty of the two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery preferred against him.
