An inspector of the Nigerian Police force in Edo State who allegedly killed a timber trader identified as Imafidon Ogbebor, on Tuesday at Igbobor village in Usen, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state, has been arrested by the security operatives.
According to Punch Metro, the policeman attached to the Iguobazuwa division, who was married with children, had in company with other policemen drove recklessly into the community, and accosted by a cleric in the community and the victim. It was learnt that the inspector fired at Ogbebor.
Speaking to a correspondent, an eyewitness, Godspower Ojo, said the policemen, who appeared to be in pursuit of some suspects, also accused the cleric of being one of the suspects.
He said, “The pastor and the victim had asked the policemen why they drove dangerously into the community, adding that they could have killed children. The inspector said they could be one of the suspects. He stepped back and shot Imafidon.”
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Haliru Gwandu, said the policeman had been arrested. “We are investigating the matter. Afterwards, the inspector will no longer be in the Force. He will be dismissed and charged to court,” Haliru said.
