What Buhari Must Do To Immediately Save Nigerians – Orji Uzor Kalu
Former governor of Abia state, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, has given a series of advice to President Muhammad Buhari on how to lift the country out of the current economic crunch.
Orji Kalu, now a member of the APC, advised Buhari on how to move Nigeria out of recession.
Kalu, who recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA), said the president should source for funds through financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) so as to ease the country’s challenges.
The Sun reports that Kalu, who spoke in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers state, urged that such borrowed money should be channeled into massive construction of roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects.
According to the former governor, majority of Nigerians are artisans and could become major factors in the growth of the economy if the government really wants to serious attention to agriculture and other non-oil sectors.
“Once artisans are active, the economy will be active,” he said adding that when funds are spent on infrastructure, there would be open opportunity for jobs.
Orji, who maintained that Buhari’s previous experience as head of state places him at an advantage to lift Nigeria out of recession, however pleaded with the president to stimulate the economy for the survival of Nigerians and the country.
“Everybody knows the country is very bad and businesses are not doing well.
“So, in this kind of situation, it behooves on the federal government to create emergency laws, and authorisation from the National Assembly, to be able to put stimulus immediately.
“The federal government should look for money from anywhere and pump into the economy. That money should go into road construction, bridges and into agriculture,” he said.
“He (Buhari) cannot allow himself to be controlled by forces that want his administration to fail Buhari has been president before; this issue of people controlling him is unacceptable because he was a two-star army general.
“He was minister of Petroleum and former chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF). I advise he should take the bull by the horns, go immediately and conquer Nigeria, economically.
“I was in PDP, yesterday, and I was in PPA. Today, I am in APC. So, he needs to surprise us by ensuring that our people are eating from the table.
“It is very important because, if Nigerians do not eat every day, it is dangerous for leadership,” he said insisting that Buhari has a competent team.
