Two herdsmen have been reportedly killed in Umuoba – Anam , Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State .
Southern City News gathered that the victims were killed on January 7 , 2017 following a brawl with the natives of the area.
As a consequence , fear has gripped the people of the area following the incident , even as the Anambra State Police Command said it had deployed no fewer than 500 policemen in area to forestall the breakdown of peace and order .
The police said six persons had been arrested in connection with the matter . State Commissioner of Police , Mr Samuel Okaula , told newsmen in Awka that the command was on top of the situation .
The commissioner , who could not confirm the casualty figure , said, “ Anybody involved in any unwholesome act will face the full wrath of law.” Okaula said the police were investigating what transpired in the community , adding that what they have now was a case of missing persons .
He said his men had stormed the nooks and crannies of Umuoba – Anam to make sure that hoodlums would not take over the area, even as he asked the people of the area to go about their normal business without any fear of molestation , saying, “ We are on top of the situation . ”
However, the South East leader of Cattle Breeders Association , Alhaji Sadiq Gidado , said the incident took place at the weekend while they were grazing . Gidado explained that the cattle breeders were grazing at Eziagulu- Otu community grazing, but decided to go to Otuocha market all in Anambra East council area to buy something when they were abducted by some youths .
Gidado said , “ Since that incident , the two persons have not been seen, while their caps and shoes that they took to the place had been recovered. ”
Also , 60- year – old Alhaji Bello Nuhu, father of one of the victims , Musa Bello Nuhu, 26, said, “ I have not slept since the incident happened . I have a feeling that my son has been killed by the youths since his shoes and caps were recovered.
“ We equally saw blood at the scene of the incident . I was in my house when I got a call and I rushed to the place and since then, I’m devastated and worried because that my son is in charge of my cattle and my children ,” the man stated.
