Abia Worker Commits Suicide Over Non Payment of 5 Months Salary ; Drops Note for Ikpeazu

Umuahia – A civil servant in Abia state has killed himself after registering his hopelessness in the government as well as his inability to continue to care for his family.

Simply recognised as De Nwankwo, the staff of the state ministry of Lands and Survey, according to source, alleged that he was being owed salary for five months. This made life difficult for him, the note he left behind indicated.

“I have no other place to go, no hope, nothing to give to my children to eat and no salary for the past five months, I am sorry I have to do this,” the short note, which is now with the Ehimiri Police Station, reads.

The deceased, in his 50s, took his own life on Sunday after his wife and three of his four children left for church. They only returned to meet his body hanging in the family’s living room.

It was learnt that Nwankwo was always going from friends to family members begging for financial and other assistance just to keep his family alive.
