Three Persons Torture Two Teenage Girls to Death Over Witchcraft Allegations in Gombe

According to an official statement signed by the Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Usman, the state Police Command has arrested three persons suspected to have conspired, forcefully confined, and tortured two teenage girls wrongly accused of witchcraft.

The PPRO who revealed that one of the girls died due to the torture they were subjected to for two weeks, also said that the victims are aged 13 and 9 respectively.

He said, “They were tortured for two weeks, some liquid substance was rubbed on their body after which a horse whip was used to beat them.

“A screwdriver was also used to inflict injuries on the girls as a result of which the 9-year-old, Abigail Lara died. She has since been buried in an unmarked grave.

“The suspects – James Awak, Adamu Zakka and Hannatu Awak, have already been charged to court for committing an offence punishable under Nigerian laws,” the PPRO added.
