EBONYI State governor, David Umahi yesterday announced the slashing of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) school fees by N10, 000.

According to him, the reduction is to help alleviate the suffering of students and parents occasioned by the economic recession in the country. The governor made the announcement during a visit to the institution, where he interacted with the university community.

He also approved all promotions put on hold by the government during investigations into the running of the school. The governor, however, regretted that the school has the highest of staff in the southeast, adding that government will seek a review. He also counseled the students against indulging in acts of cultism and other vices, pointing out that the repercussions of such acts will be too grave for such students to bear.

He also announced a loan of N100 million to the university to enable it engage in agricultural ventures next year as part of the efforts to improve the IGR of the school. Earlier, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Francis Idike, thanked the governor for his efforts to improve the university. He also promised that the university administration will work harder to sustain the achievement so far recorded.
