Members of the National Executive Council of the All Progressives Congress, APC refused to endorse President Muhammadu Buhari for the second term in office as they met in Abuja on Tuesday.
This was revealed by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, adding that a motion was raised by a member to pass a vote of confidence on the president and consequently adopt his candidature for 2019 presidential election.
Dogara said, βOf course the vote of confidence was passed on the president because his confidence is not even shaking in the first place. But some of us did not agree with the idea of adopting Mr President as the sole candidate of the APC.β
According to Dogara, the forum was not to discuss 2019 election but the registration of members and chart a reconciliation path to pacify some aggrieved members.
Recalled that one of the APC national leaders, the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was not at the meeting.
Abubakar had since declared his intention to run for the 2019 presidential poll against whosoever would be vying for the position, including Buhari.
Dogara said that while he was convinced that Buhari had the integrity to continue, the issue of adopting him now had been deferred until later date.
