A yet-to-be-identified Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) has reportedly died after being crushed by a truck along Hospital Road, opposite Mega Primary School, in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred when the officer attempted to stop a truck travelling along the road.

A video shared on Friday by Akure-based radio station Crest FM captured residents shouting as the incident unfolded, with passersby gathering at the scene following the fatal accident.
According to eyewitness accounts, the officer tried to intercept the truck, which was reportedly already in the fast lane, but was unable to stop it before the incident occurred.
The officer was reportedly trapped beneath the trailer after being struck by the vehicle, leaving residents and passersby distressed.
The footage also showed some of the officer’s colleagues appearing visibly shaken by the incident, while the scene was filled with shouting and concern from members of the public.
However, the circumstances leading to the incident, including why the officer attempted to stop the truck, remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
The identity of the deceased officer and any official statement from the relevant authorities were also unavailable at the time of reporting.
