Former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, in Ohio.
Flynn, 40, was sentenced Monday after a Miami County jury found him guilty of murdering his 37-year-old wife.
The former music pastor had maintained that an intruder entered their Tipp City home and shot Ashley while she slept.
Jurors rejected that account after hearing eight days of testimony and reviewing evidence prosecutors said linked Flynn to the killing.
Judge Jeannine Pratt ultimately sentenced Flynn to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
During the sentencing hearing, letters from Flynn’s two daughters were read to the court.
The girls pleaded with their father to admit responsibility for their mother’s death and questioned why he killed her.
One daughter wrote: “How could you do such a thing?”
She described Ashley as the perfect mother and said Flynn had taken away the only mother she had.
The second daughter addressed him simply as “Caleb” rather than “Daddy.”
She urged him to tell the truth and accept the consequences of his actions. The letters left Flynn sobbing in court.
Prosecutors say Caleb Flynn staged murder scene
Ashley Flynn was shot inside the couple’s home in February. Flynn initially told authorities that he had been asleep when he heard gunshots.
