Deputy Governor of Lagos State and Lagos APC Governorship Candidate for 2027, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat yesterday at the PODFEST NAIJA 2026 held at the Harbour Point, Victoria Island.
The Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat gave a recap of what the Government has been doing in terms of digital connectivity, he says Lagos is expanding a unified digital infrastructure to support connectivity, entrepreneurship support, healthcare access, smart-city services, and public safety.
Between 2019 and 2025, Lagos laid more than 3,000 kilometers of fiber infrastructure and is approaching its 6,000-kilometer target, being developed through the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) and $22m direct investment for additional cable expansion.
Fibre connectivity is intended to support faster creator uploads, lower startup costs, and improved access for schools, health centers, and hospitals.
Hospitals are being linked so patient records can be retrieved across locations using a patient’s name and record number, regardless of where the patient lives.
SAFETY:
The State is investing heavily in Security, that has given a boost to economic development, and has made Lagos State the safest State in the country.
The state is using geographic information systems, 5G-enabled smart poles, and other smart-city systems to manage infrastructure and data.
About 650 cameras have been deployed toward a target of 3,000; expansion is being implemented in batches.
STARTUPS RESEARCH SUPPORT:
The Lagos State Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) at is supporting at least 90 research and development projects.
More than 200,000 small and medium-sized businesses have received 15 billion Naira in loans and grants, alongside finance and skills support.
TRANSPORTATION AND PAYMENT:
The Blue and Red rail lines have changed how thousands of Lagosians travel. About 6.2 million Lagosians use Cowry Cards, with a target of enabling one payment method across BRT, ferry and rail services.
