Johannesburg mayor, Dada Morero, said that the power to the Nigerian consulate has been disconnected due to non-payment.
The building in Illovo has an outstanding municipal bill of 7 million rands ($438,000).

Morero, accompanied by City Power and Joburg Water officials, turned off the taps and cut the power.
The action follows a similar operation at a Shell petrol station in Rosebank.
Mayor Morero emphasised that paying municipal bills applies to all residents and businesses in the metro.
He added that similar operations will continue across the city to ensure compliance and prompt payments.
