Umahi’s Son Sworn-in As Ohaozara LGA Chairman

Osborn Umahi, the 28-year-old son of Minister of Works David Umahi, has been sworn in as chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Osborn took the oath of office on Tuesday after winning the August 22, 2026, local government election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During his inauguration, he announced that he would forgo his salary and allowances throughout his tenure, saying he entered the race to serve the people rather than make money from public office.

He also pledged to focus on infrastructure development, youth empowerment, support for local businesses and improved delivery of basic services across Ohaozara.

The swearing-in was conducted by Governor Francis Nwifuru and attended by political leaders, government officials and David Umahi, who served as Ebonyi governor from 2015 to 2023 before becoming Minister of Works.

Osborn, an engineer and businessman, studied civil engineering at the University of Surrey in England and later obtained a master’s degree in finance and investment management from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.

His emergence came as the APC won all 13 chairmanship positions contested in Ebonyi State’s August 22 local government election.
