The Abia Patriots (TAP), a non-partisan collective of Abia professionals and stakeholders, has commended Governor Alex Chioma Otti for what it described as a major turnaround in the state’s education sector within his first three years in office.
In a statement issued in Umuahia on Tuesday, TAP listed key interventions to include the upgrade of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba into a technology and innovation hub; the re-accreditation and reformation of courses at Abia State University, Uturu; the delivery of Smart Schools across the three senatorial zones; the siting of a UNIPOD Manu-Tech Innovation Hub at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike; and the ongoing rehabilitation, equipping, and digitalization of public primary and secondary schools.
“These are not isolated projects,” said TAP Secretary General, Mazi Adindu Madumere. “They are strategic investments designed to position Abia youths to compete in the 4th Industrial Revolution. The Smart Schools and the UNIPOD are tangible proof that the ‘New Abia’ is not a slogan, it is a reality under Governor Otti.”
Madumere urged students, teachers, and entrepreneurs to maximize the facilities to acquire 21st century skills and create jobs. He also called for collective ownership of the infrastructure.
“Government is building them, but it is our duty as citizens to protect them so present and future generations can benefit,” he said.
TAP further observed that the education drive is running alongside visible progress in health, infrastructure, and transportation across the state. The group said this alignment indicates that the foundation for long-term prosperity is being laid.
Citing Zechariah 4:9, Madumere argued that continuity is critical to complete ongoing projects.
“Since Governor Otti has laid solid foundations in education, health, infrastructure, transportation and other critical sectors, he remains best placed to build on them and make Abia the delight of the world,” he said.
The group pledged to continue mobilizing citizens around values of orientation, attitude, character, and culture to sustain the gains of the present administration.
