A mobile money agent turned the tables on armed robbers in a dramatic shootout at Lashibi, Greater Accra, killing one attacker and recovering the full ₦84 million (equivalent of GH¢140,000) stolen from him.

The incident unfolded on the evening of Friday, July 3, 2026, as the agent was heading home after closing his shop. Two masked men on a motorcycle ambushed his vehicle, unleashing gunfire that shattered his front windscreen and blew out his right rear tyre. In the chaos, they grabbed the cash-filled bag and attempted to speed off.
But the agent, licensed to carry a firearm, was not about to let them escape. He returned fire with precision, striking one suspect who crashed and died on the spot. His accomplice abandoned the motorbike and the money, fleeing into nearby bushes. The agent walked away without a scratch.
Police who arrived at the scene recovered a stash of weapons from the deceased—an AK-47 rifle, two fully loaded magazines with 55 live rounds, and 11 extra bullets. The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Innocent Elemuwa Akachukeu through an ID card found on him, also had ₦1.8 million in cash and a Samsung phone in his possession. Ballistic experts picked up five AK-47 shell casings and two pistol casings at the scene.
The body has been moved to the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy while the Accra Regional Police Command intensifies manhunt for the fleeing robber. Authorities are appealing to the public to report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station or call 18555 and 191.
