Hon. Obi Aguocha on Fire: Constituents Demand Scorecard as Tenure Winds Down

An advocacy group, Good Governance for People of Ikwuano/Umuahia, has called on the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, to publish a comprehensive scorecard of his legislative performance and constituency interventions as his tenure in the House of Representatives approaches its final phase.

In an open letter signed by the group’s founder, Ikechukwu Nwadinobi, constituents were said to be demanding answers to questions that have become increasingly difficult to ignore.

The letter noted that across Nigeria, citizens are paying closer attention to constituency projects, budget allocations, and legislative performance. It added that lawmakers have access to various channels through which projects, empowerment programmes, agricultural interventions, and infrastructure can be facilitated for their constituents.

“The question before Ikwuano/Umuahia is simple: what has our constituency received, and where can citizens see the evidence?” the letter read.

The group expressed surprise that the lawmaker had yet to publish a scorecard detailing projects facilitated, roads rehabilitated, schools supported, health facilities upgraded, youths trained, farmers empowered, and jobs created during his time in office.

While acknowledging that no single legislator can solve every problem, the group insisted that citizens are entitled to know what efforts have been made on their behalf.

The letter also addressed Aguocha’s recent criticism of the use of tricycles and motorcycles as tools of empowerment. The group questioned whether the lawmaker had offered alternative stewardship in the form of IT and digital skills projects.

“Hon Obi Sir, are there Ikwuano/Umuahia constituents who have indeed benefitted from IT projects? If yes, who, when and where?” the letter queried.

The group argued that while digital skills are essential for the future, leadership must also recognise present realities. It noted that for many families, a tricycle is not a symbol of underdevelopment but a means of survival.

“A tricycle creates income, supports education, and sustains households. Development should not force citizens to choose between digital opportunity and practical economic empowerment. A constituency needs both,” the letter stated.

The group challenged the lawmaker not to defend his record but to present it, urging him to publish a scorecard for the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia to see.

“The people who elected you deserve nothing less,” the letter concluded.

An Open Letter to Hon. Obi Aguocha: Member Representing, Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency

Dear Hon. Obi Aguocha,

The Time for a Constituency Scorecard Is Now

As your tenure in the House of Representatives approaches its final phase, the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal constituency deserve answers to questions that have become increasingly difficult to ignore.

Across Nigeria, citizens are paying closer attention to constituency projects, budget allocations, and legislative performance than ever before. Public records show that lawmakers have access to various channels through which projects, empowerment programmes, agricultural interventions, and infrastructure can be facilitated for their constituents. Constituency and Zonal Intervention Projects continue to attract billions of naira annually across the federation.

The question before Ikwuano/Umuahia is simple: what has our constituency received, and where can citizens see the evidence?

It is really surprising that up till now, you are yet to publish a comprehensive scorecard detailing projects facilitated, roads rehabilitated, schools supported, health facilities upgraded, youths trained, farmers empowered, and jobs created during your time in office? Interestingly, numerous photo-ops show that you are close to your governor, who is widely celebrated.

Can you provide a transparent breakdown of interventions attracted to the constituency and the status of their implementation? Many constituents remain concerned about persistent challenges, including unemployment, rural development deficits, and erosion threats affecting communities. While no single legislator can solve every problem, citizens are entitled to know what efforts have been made on their behalf.

You recently criticized the use of tricycles and motorcycles as tools of empowerment. One would assume, that you would then offer a stewardship of how you have used technology and innovation instead. Hon Obi Sir, are there Ikwuano/Umuahia constituents who have indeed benefitted from IT projects? If yes, who, when and where?

Digital skills are essential for the future. However, leadership must also recognize present realities. For many families, a tricycle is not a symbol of underdevelopment. It is a means of survival. It creates income, supports education, and sustains households. Development should not force citizens to choose between digital opportunity and practical economic empowerment. A constituency needs both.

The challenge before you is not to defend your record but to present it. Publish the scorecard for the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia to see. Present the projects, show the programmes. Demonstrate the impact. The people who elected you deserve nothing less. Yours faithfully,

Ikechukwu Nwadinobi
