The Oyo State Government has announced a new restriction on the operations of commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada, across the state.
According to the directive, Okada riders will no longer be allowed to operate between 10:30pm and 5:30am daily, in what authorities describe as a measure aimed at strengthening security and reducing crime during late-night hours.
Governor Seyi Makinde approved the policy as part of ongoing efforts to regulate transportation activities and address security concerns in the state.
Government officials explained that the restriction is expected to limit the use of motorcycles for criminal activities such as robbery and kidnapping, which are often reported to occur at night.
Security agencies have been directed to enforce the order strictly, while riders and transport unions are expected to comply with the new schedule.
The state government has not yet announced penalties for violators, but enforcement is expected to begin immediately.
