BREAKING! Protesters Forcefully Break Into Ogun State Government House

A massive protest has hit Ogun State as members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and other demonstrators demand the immediate release of abducted school children and teachers in Oyo State.

The protest, which took place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, turned dramatic as demonstrators forcefully gained entry into the Government House premises in Abeokuta amid heightened tension and resistance from security operatives .

According to reports, security personnel attempted to lock an internal gate to prevent the protesters from entering the premises. However, the demonstrators resisted the move and struggled with the gate before eventually breaching the barricade and gaining access . Other reports indicate the protesters destroyed or pushed open the main gate of the Government House to force their way in .

.

The protesters, many of whom carried placards and chanted solidarity songs, expressed anger over the continued captivity of the victims and called on authorities to intensify efforts to secure their safe release . Some of the placards displayed during the protest read: “Bring Back Our Children, End Bad Governance Now,” “Release Our Teachers and Learners Unconditionally,” and “Nigeria, Our Blackboards Are Turning Into Graveyards” .

The demonstration caused a temporary disruption of activities around the Government House as security operatives monitored the situation .

The protest is part of a nationwide action by the NUT over the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. Recall that two weeks ago, 39 students and seven teachers were abducted in an attack targeting several schools in the area, including Community Grammar School, L.A. Primary School both in Ahoro-Esinele, and Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota .

The abductors also beheaded Mr. Micheal Oyedokun, a mathematics teacher abducted from Community Grammar School .

The Ogun State NLC chairman, Hameed Benco, expressed his anger, stressing that the protest was just a warning to the government as drastic action will follow soon if nothing is done .

“We want all the abductees to be released and this nationwide protest is to express our feeling to the federal government after which another drastic action will likely follow. We expect the Federal Government to act now,” he said .

As of the time of this report, the Ogun State Government had not issued an official statement regarding the breach of the Government House premises.
