A renowned entrepreneur and a key player in Nigeria’s marine logistics sector, Dr Darlington Nnabugo Ofor has formally entered the 2027 Enugu State governorship race after picking up the Expression of Interest Form under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The development, announced in Enugu on 18 May 2026, marks the beginning of what his supporters describe as a “Rescue Mission” aimed at addressing governance and development issues across the state.

According to his media team, the decision to contest is centred on “purposeful leadership, inclusive governance, and sustainable development” for the people of Enugu State.
Dr. Ofor said his ambition is focused on policies that support economic growth, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and industrial development. He also pledged commitment to accountability, transparency, and public participation in governance.
His entry into the race comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather pace across the state, with conversations increasingly focused on leadership, unemployment, infrastructure, and economic opportunities.
Supporters who attended the event described the move as a response to growing calls for leadership that reflect the needs of communities across Enugu State.
They said the state requires policies that support job creation, improve social infrastructure, and strengthen public trust in government institutions.
The picking of the Expression of Interest Form also signals the start of consultations with party leaders, community stakeholders, youth groups, women’s groups, and residents across the state.
His team said the consultations would focus on understanding the concerns of citizens and building support ahead of the party’s primary election process.
Political observers believe the coming months will shape discussions around governance, development priorities, and the direction of the state ahead of the next election cycle.
For many residents, the announcement has added another voice to the growing debate on the future of Enugu State and the type of leadership expected in the years ahead.
While the election is still months away, Dr. Ofor’s declaration has already drawn attention from political groups and residents monitoring developments within the state’s political space.
His supporters insist the movement is not only about winning an election but about building a government that responds to public needs and creates opportunities across communities.
“The mission is clear. The vision is strong. The movement is rising,” members of his team stated during the announcement.
With consultations now underway, attention is expected to shift towards policy discussions, political alliances, and preparations leading into the 2027 governorship election in Enugu State.
