Former Governor Yero, Shehu Sani, Senator Katung Win APC Senatorial Primaries in Kaduna

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Ramalan Mukhtar Yero, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kaduna North Senatorial District primary election.

Yero secured 6,060 votes to defeat Muazu Mukaddas, who polled 1,044 votes, while Engineer Bala Ikara scored 362 votes, thereby clinching the party’s ticket for the forthcoming general election.

In Kaduna Central Senatorial District, former Senator Shehu Sani also recorded a decisive victory, polling 9,105 votes to emerge winner of the APC primary election.

The Returning Officer, Samira Jibrin, announced that Yusuf Zailani scored 1,021 votes, while Shettima Yerima, who withdrew from the race, garnered 1,253 votes.

Addressing journalists after the exercise, Shehu Sani thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for their support.

“There is no better representation of the people of Kaduna State than me being their lawmaker and Uba Sani being the governor,” he said.

He also appreciated his supporters for giving him another opportunity to represent them, while commending Shettima Yerima for stepping down from the race and calling on all aspirants to unite for the progress of the APC.

Shehu Sani further pledged to focus on tackling poverty, unemployment, and other national challenges through effective representation and by attracting federal presence to the constituency.

Meanwhile, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung won the APC Kaduna South Senatorial District primary election after defeating former Senator Danjuma Tella Laah and Michael Ayuba Auta in the exercise conducted across the eight local government areas of the district.

Announcing the results at the collation centre in Jema’a Local Government Area, the Returning Officer, Prof. John Laah of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible.

According to the results, Katung polled 7,453 votes to defeat Danjuma Laah, who secured 1,370 votes, while Michael Auta scored 878 votes.

Reacting to the outcome, Chairman of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Joseph Bege Gaiya, described the result as a reflection of the wishes of the grassroots and a demonstration of the party’s internal democracy.

He expressed confidence that the APC would secure overwhelming victories for Governor Uba Sani, Senator Katung, and other party candidates in the 2027 general elections, while urging aggrieved aspirants to embrace reconciliation and party unity.
