The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has declared that Governor Alex Otti is not its candidate for the 2027 Abia State governorship election.

In a move that further highlights the deepening division within the party, Abure presented the party’s governorship nomination form to Hon. Ceekay Igara, the Labour Party’s Vice Chairman for the Southeast.
According to the faction, any vote cast for the Labour Party in the 2027 Abia governorship election will be counted for Igara, not Governor Otti.
The development comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis in the Labour Party, with the Abure faction locked in a legal battle with the Nenadi Usman-led faction, which Governor Otti is aligned with.
Governor Otti has repeatedly stated that he remains in the Labour Party but has not publicly declared which faction he recognizes.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party had not responded to the Abure faction’s declaration.
