The Action Youths of Abia State, Ohafia Local Government Area Chapter, has called on Senator Mao Ohuabunwa to contest the 2027 senatorial election for Abia North.

The group made the declaration following a well-attended meeting held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Ohafia LGA.
In a press release issued after the meeting and signed by the Coordinator, Comr. Goodluck Uduma Ibe, and the Secretary, Comr. Uchenna Uduma Onuegbe, the youth body unanimously resolved to urge the former senator to return to the National Assembly, citing his record of legislative excellence and meaningful representation.
The group highlighted Senator Mao’s tenure as ECOWAS Parliament leader, his impactful years in the House of Representatives, and his achievements in the Senate despite what they described as obstruction from political opposition.
“Despite challenges and obstruction from the opposition, he delivered meaningful projects and representation for Abia North β achievements unmatched in the past eight years,” part of the statement read.
The youth group also pointed to Senator Mao’s leadership as Board Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where they said he strengthened party structures and enhanced credibility. They also noted his stewardship as Board Chairman of the University of Port Harcourt, which they said positioned the institution for growth.

The youth body further described Senator Mao as a humanitarian leader who has consistently been a voice for the less privileged and downtrodden in every appointment he has held.
Contrasting his record with the current senator representing Abia North, the group stated that Senator Mao Ohuabunwa embodies the qualities of effective representation, accountability, and progress.

The group called on the former senator to contest the 2027 election and restore what they described as purposeful leadership to the district.
