The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tanimu Turaki, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his visit to Jos, Plateau State, describing it as insensitive and lacking compassion for victims of the recent killings.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the opposition party described the President’s visit on Thursday as performative.

The party argued that it would have been preferable for him to remain in Abuja.
The PDP said the president’s remarks failed to comfort grieving families, adding that his inability to move beyond the airport suggested that security agencies were overwhelmed by the worsening insecurity across the country.
“On Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026, more than 40 people were massacred in Plateau State, and the Presidency remained silent for over 48 hours
“Subsequently, the administration glossed over the carnage until Nigerians condemned the President for not visiting the state,” the statement read in part. The party further alleged that Tinubu’s eventual visit, four days later, was rushed and lacked empathy. It claimed he held a brief meeting with stakeholders and victims at the Jos airport lounge before departing.
“The president’s insensitivity was evident. His impatience was clear when he remarked that the airport had no light and that he had only 10 minutes before returning to Abuja. His words offered no succour to the victims and were far from reassuring,” the PDP stated.
Condemning what it termed a superficial show, the party insisted the visit added salt to injury for those affected by the violence.
The PDP also faulted the president’s proposal to install 5,000 Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, describing it as a simplistic response to a complex security crisis.
“It is unrealistic to suggest that cameras alone can address the insecurity ravaging Plateau State and the nation,” the statement added.
The party called on the Federal Government to adopt a comprehensive and whole-of-society approach with strong emphasis on community engagement to tackle the country’s deepening security challenges.
