The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria–D7G has announced plans to construct Nigeria’s first military jetty near Tin Can Island Port, Lagos, a project set to boost defence production and generate over 7,000 direct jobs.
The CEO of DICON-D7G, Mr. Osman Chennar, described the jetty as a “strategic national asset” that will enhance Nigeria’s defence logistics, improve efficiency, and strengthen local manufacturing.

“This facility will transform how Nigeria sources, assembles, produces, and exports defence equipment,” Chennar said, noting that it will reduce reliance on third-party maritime logistics, cut turnaround times, and lower demurrage costs.
Once operational, the jetty will employ over 2,000 retired senior military officers and 5,000 skilled civilians, including engineers, welders, drone specialists, and logistics experts.
The jetty will support the production and assembly of small and medium arms, tactical drones, unmanned systems, anti-jammer drones, and MRAP vehicles.
DICON-D7G has already begun producing DG103 rifles in Kaduna for both Nigerian and African markets.
Major General Mainasara Abdul Masanawa (retd.) said the project marks a turning point in Nigeria’s defence self-reliance, positioning the country as a hub for defence manufacturing while conserving foreign exchange and advancing technology transfer.
Scheduled for launch in June 2026, the jetty aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, combining defence industrialisation with economic growth and job creation.
