The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, has commended the institution’s Rector, Prof. Christopher Kalu Okoro, for his outstanding performance in steering the affairs of the school.
The SUG President, Comrade Michael Maduka, gave the commendation during an interview with Magic FM in Aba on Thursday, stating that Prof. Okoro’s advent in 2024 has dramatically transformed the atmosphere of the institution.
Maduka revealed that the polytechnic had faced significant challenges prior to the Rector’s appointment, with morale at an all-time low among both staff and students.
“Over the years, we have been facing a lot of difficulties in terms of lectures and the general atmosphere of learning. Students have been complaining, while our lecturers were owed for years,” Maduka said.
He noted that the intervention of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, who appointed Prof. Okoro, has reversed the narrative.
“Since our governor came on board and appointed Prof. Okoro, everything has been moving smoothly. Our lecturers are now enjoying their allowances, the government has been paying their salaries promptly, and students are enjoying being in school. It has been a great honor,” he said.
Describing the Rector as a man of integrity, Maduka praised his commitment to excellence and institutional growth.
Also speaking, the SUG Vice President, Comrade Ebby Faith Chinaza, described Prof. Okoro as a leader with listening ears, adding that he has successfully restored confidence in both students and staff.
She noted that the Rector has reshaped the relationship between students and staff, rekindling the zeal for teaching and learning across the institution.
Both student leaders emphasized that Prof. Okoro has made governance accessible and is always ready to attend to the needs of students. They urged parents and guardians to have confidence in enrolling their wards in the polytechnic.
The SUG executives also extended their appreciation to Governor Alex Otti for his unprecedented infrastructural transformation and interventions in the institution, describing his impact as remarkable.
