The Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Isu (FCET), Ebonyi State, has officially approved the appointment of Dr. Francis Nwangbo Azunku as the 2nd Provost of the institution.
The appointment was announced on Thursday, February 26, 2026, following a rigorous screening and interview process conducted in strict compliance with the Federal College of Education Act and established guidelines for the appointment of provosts.
Dr. Azunku, a distinguished academic and seasoned administrator, currently serves as a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Education at the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo. Over the years, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to academic excellence.
Dr. Azunku’s administrative experience spans over two decades. His record of service includes:
– Head of Department (2004–2007)
– Deputy Provost (2017–2021)
– Ex-Officio Member, Governing Council (2017–2020)
– Director of Consultancy Services (2023–Date)
In addition, he has served in 22 strategic institutional committees, notably as:
– Chairman, Curriculum Development and Implementation Committee (2025)
– Chairman, Committee on Status Upgrade of Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo to a University of Education (2023)
– Chairman, Committee of Deans and Directors (2017–2021)
Dr. Azunku earned his first degree from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 1999. He proceeded to University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained his Master’s degree in 2008 and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Education in 2019.
Having joined the service of the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo in 2004, he rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer in 2019. With over 22 years of experience in academia, he is widely respected for his scholarship, administrative acumen, and commitment to educational development. He is a member of five professional associations and a recipient of eight distinguished awards.
Importantly, profound appreciation goes to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his significant support and positive intervention that greatly facilitated this appointment. His steadfast commitment to strengthening educational institutions in Ebonyi State continues to yield impactful results, and his role in ensuring capable leadership at FCET Isu is deeply acknowledged and appreciated.
Dr. Azunku hails from Okwerike Agbaja in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. He is married and blessed with children.
As he assumes office as the 2nd Provost of FCET Isu, expectations are high that his wealth of experience, visionary leadership, and dedication to academic excellence will usher in a new era of growth and transformation for the institution.
