Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has stirred widespread conversation on social media after making a bold claim about the causes of marital breakdowns.
In a post shared via her Instagram page, the actress asserted that men are responsible for as much as 95 per cent of failed marriages. According to Ogbodo, many unions collapse due to what she described as recurring negative behaviours by men, including neglect, infidelity, lack of accountability, emotional abuse and devaluation of their partners.

She further argued that societal norms often enable such conduct, making it easier for men to evade responsibility within marriages while women bear the emotional and psychological consequences.
“Many marriages fail because a significant number of men neglect, cheat, devalue, emotionally harm or betray their wives,” the actress stated, adding that the absence of accountability in relationships remains a major issue.
The statement, which has since gone viral, has generated mixed reactions online. While some social media users agreed with her perspective, citing personal experiences and cultural realities, others faulted the generalisation, insisting that marriage failures are usually the result of actions from both partners.
As expected, the post has reignited conversations around gender roles, responsibility, accountability and emotional health within marriages, with opinions sharply divided across social media platforms.
