Osakwe, Giwa Linked to Wrong Property Eviction

A police investigation has found that a court judgment allegedly tied to one Lagos property was used to evict occupants from an entirely different address. The discovery has placed property developer Cecil Ezem Osakwe and lawyer Victor Giwa at the centre of a growing criminal investigation.

In an official report dated 3 February 2026, the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command in Onikan, Lagos, confirmed it is investigating allegations of conspiracy, forgery, perjury, impersonation and wilful damage to property in connection with the eviction of veteran musician Uche Ibeto, popularly known as Jigida Queen.

The case began with a petition filed on 26 August 2025 by S.O. Onwubualili and Co. on behalf of Ibeto and her sister, Ifeoma Stella Ilodibe. Those named in the petition and now under police investigation include Laura Chinyelu Okoh, Cecil Ezem Osakwe, Victor Giwa, Kenneth Chiso Joshua of KC Joshua and Co., Ifeanyi Maxwell Okoh, Chinedu Asazu Okoh and others. Police confirmed the petition was received and referred for investigation.

According to the police findings, investigators discovered that a court judgment meant for a property at No. 28 slash 28 slash 1994E, Idimu Town, Agege, Lagos, was used to execute an eviction at a separate address, No. 36, Ibezim Obiajulu Street, off Marsha Road, Surulere, said to belong to the complainants late mother. The report states that Laura Okoh allegedly conspired with Osakwe, Giwa, KC Joshua and Co. and others in applying that judgment to the Surulere property.

The police document further records that properties belonging to S.O. Onwubualili were damaged during the eviction and that some items were allegedly stolen.

While the eviction has already taken place, police say investigations remain ongoing, particularly into an alleged forged Letter of Administration and the court judgment used to remove the complainants and their tenants.

In a November 2025 interview with the newspaper Premium Times, Cecil Osakwe reportedly stated that he had only paid a deposit for the Surulere property. That statement raised further public questions about the basis on which possession was pursued through the courts. Victor Giwa, speaking as his lawyer, maintained that his client had purchased the property, although details of payment were not publicly clarified.

It will be recalled that both Cecil Ezem Osakwe and Victor Giwa are also standing trial in Abuja in a separate case involving allegations of criminal trespass relating to another property dispute.
