A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held on November 15–16, 2025 in Ibadan. The court ruled that the convention was conducted in violation of existing court orders and party guidelines, rendering its decisions invalid and of no effect.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Uche Agomoh, also barred Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and others elected at that convention from presenting themselves as national officers of the party. Instead, the court held that the caretaker committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the only recognised National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP until a lawful national convention is held.
According to the judgment, the Ibadan convention was held in flagrant disobedience to subsisting court orders, undermining the rule of law and the party’s own constitution. Consequently, all decisions taken at the convention have been set aside.
In reaction, the caretaker committee’s counsel described the ruling as a boost for democracy and the rule of law, stressing that the party must comply with legal and constitutional requirements going forward.
The judgment adds a fresh dimension to the ongoing leadership crisis within Nigeria’s main opposition party as legal and political battles continue over control of its national structures.
