Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the recruitment of 150 new firefighters into the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) as part of efforts to enhance emergency response and public safety across the state.
The development was disclosed on Wednesday in Lagos by the Controller General of LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, in an official statement. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Adeseye stated that the recruitment reflects the Sanwo-Olu administration’s continued commitment to building a resilient, well-equipped, and professionally trained fire and rescue service capable of responding effectively to emergencies.
According to her, the latest intake follows previous landmark recruitments under the current administration, including the engagement of 100 firefighters in 2020 and 435 firefighters in 2022, which she described as the largest single recruitment exercise in the history of the Lagos Fire Service.
She revealed that the newly recruited firefighters, who were employed in November 2025, have commenced intensive training at the upgraded LSFRS Fire Academy.
The recruits are currently undergoing the Professional Basic Firefighting Competency Programme and Short Service Course, designed to equip them with the skills and discipline required for modern firefighting and rescue operations.
The controller general reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s dedication to continuous investment in human capacity development, modern infrastructure, and operational equipment to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
She added that the recruitment is part of broader efforts by the Sanwo-Olu administration to strengthen emergency preparedness and improve response times in the nation’s commercial hub.
