A viral video circulating on social media has shown residents scooping diesel from a fallen tanker along a major road in Ibadan, Oyo State, sparking widespread reactions and safety concerns online.
In the video, several individuals were seen rushing to the scene with kegs and various containers, collecting diesel as it spilled onto the tarred road from the overturned tanker. At least one person was reportedly seen bringing a large Storex water tank to the location in an attempt to fill it with the spilled fuel.

A woman who appeared to be filming the incident could be heard condemning the action and warning those involved about the potential danger. Despite her warnings, the residents continued scooping the diesel, with some even standing inside the flowing fuel without showing visible concern.
The footage has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians online. While many condemned the act as reckless and extremely dangerous, others expressed sympathy, attributing the behavior to economic hardship and the rising cost of fuel.
Some social media users argued that the diesel would have gone to waste if it had not been collected, while others emphasized the serious risks involved, including the possibility of fire outbreaks or explosions.
Nigeria has previously recorded several tragic incidents involving fallen fuel tankers, particularly petrol tankers, which have resulted in explosions and loss of lives.
The incident has once again raised concerns about public safety awareness and the dangers associated with approaching fuel spill sites without proper emergency response measures in place.
