The Edo State Police Command has arrested a woman identified as Martina Dachung for allegedly selling her newborn baby for the sum of ₦1.4 million in Uromi, located in the Edo Central Senatorial District of the state. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday, January 10, 2025, by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem.

According to the police, the suspect was apprehended following a report filed by a resident, Ebhomien Matthew Asibor, who alerted security operatives after discovering an alleged child-trafficking arrangement involving the woman.
ASP Ikoedem disclosed that further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, including a medical practitioner believed to have facilitated the illegal transaction.
The statement read in part:
“On January 8, 2026, one Ebhomien Matthew Asibor of Uromi alerted the command after learning that a mother was allegedly involved in a child trafficking arrangement.
Acting on the information, operatives from the Iruekpen Divisional Headquarters arrested one Martina Dachung, who later led police to the arrest of Matron Ighalo Grace of Eguavon Medical Centre, Uromi, and Oha Promise, all connected to the transaction.”
The police further revealed that the newborn baby boy was safely recovered, while evidence confirming the payment of ₦1,400,000 was also retrieved.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating all forms of criminal activity in the state, assuring residents of sustained efforts to rid Edo State of crime.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the police in maintaining law and order.
