President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The brief ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where the new INEC Chairman took his oath of office at 1:50 p.m.
Speaking at the event, President Tinubu urged Amupitan to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process and strengthen the institutional capacity of the commission.
“Your mandate is crucial to the credibility of our democracy. You must ensure that every election conducted under your watch meets the highest standards of fairness and transparency,” the President said.
Amupitan’s swearing-in follows his confirmation by the Senate on October 16, after a rigorous screening exercise.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Professor of Law, Amupitan succeeds Mahmood Yakubu, who completed his tenure earlier this month.
