OGBA LAND, RIVERS STATE – September 10, 2025 – In a decisive move to uphold the integrity of the traditional institution, His Eminence Barr. Dr. Nwachuku Nnam Obuoha Obi III, the Oba Eze Ogba of Ogba Land, has suspended two high-ranking chiefs for a period of seven years following confirmed allegations of gross misconduct and fraud.
The suspended title holders are His Royal Highness, Eze Goodluck Okoru, the Ochi-ohna Usomini of Omoku, and Chief Israel Okirie, the Nchikre of Ogba Land. Both individuals are based in the Omoku region of Ogba Land.
The suspension, handed down on Friday, September 5th, 2025, comes after a thorough investigation into claims that the two chiefs illicitly used the revered name of the Monarch to defraud an Igbo businessman, Mr. Esomonu Chibuike Prince, of the sum of ₦800,000 (Eight Hundred Thousand Naira).
In a statement from the Royal Palace, His Eminence expressed his profound disappointment, stating that the actions of the chiefs were “unacceptable and dishonorable.” He emphasized that those entrusted with traditional leadership must be paragons of virtue and must uphold the dignity and integrity of the throne at all times.
As part of the disciplinary measures, HRH Goodluck Okoru and Chief Israel Okirie are strictly forbidden from participating in any traditional activities or parading themselves as chiefs in Ogba Land for the entire seven-year duration of their suspension.
The palace issued a stern warning that any attempt to defy this royal order will be viewed as a further act of insubordination and will be met with more severe consequences.
This firm action sends a clear message about the Oba Eze Ogba’s unwavering commitment to justice, discipline, and the sanctity of the traditional institutions he leads.
