Former governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode has denied declaring interest to run for the governorship of Lagos state in 2027, saying online publication false.
This is in response to online media publication with the title, “AMBODE DECLARES INTENTION TO CONTEST 2027 LAGOS GUBER Election, BACKS TINUBU’S RE-ELECTION”.
Ambode in a release signed Pius Ade Babaleye Pab, the Director of media and information, Tinubu-Ambo Support Media Group said consultations are still ongoing regarding 2027 and is yet to make any public comment on that.
The statement said, “As a law-abiding leader, Mr. Ambode fully respects the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and has never made pronouncements outside the legal framework.
“Our principal is currently consulting widely, listening to stakeholders, and at the appropriate time will personally make his position known to Lagosians and Nigerians.
“We regard this publication as an act of political blackmail aimed at misrepresenting the intentions of our principal and misleading the public.”
While urging members of the mass media to always verify information from sources before going public, the former governor urged Lagosians and Nigerians at large to ignore the publication as no such declaration was made.
