Police React to Viral Personnel Keke Extortion Video in Umuahia, Orders Investigation

The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video circulating on Facebook showing a traffic officer allegedly attempting to extort an auto-rickshaw (Keke) rider.

According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka and made available to IgbereTV, the officer featured in the video has been identified, and the matter is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

> “The Abia State Police Command is aware of a trending video on Facebook showing a traffic officer of the Command who was alleged of attempting to extort an auto-rickshaw (Keke) rider,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reassured the public of the Command’s zero tolerance for unprofessional conduct, particularly actions capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force.

CP Isa reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to uphold the core values of the Police as outlined by the Inspector-General of Police. He noted that officers across the state are under strict instruction to remain professional, service-oriented, law-abiding, and people-friendly in the discharge of their duties.

“We want the public to know that the Abia Police Command takes matters of professionalism and discipline seriously,” the CP stated. “Any officer found wanting will be appropriately sanctioned, as no one is above the law.”

The Command called on members of the public to continue cooperating with the police by reporting incidents of misconduct while assuring that appropriate actions will always be taken to ensure justice and maintain public trust.
