Two suspects, Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom, 18, and Sunday Michael, 24, a security guard, have been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of Wisdom’s five-year-old second cousin, Wisdom Obodoagu.
According to the police in a statement issued on Wednesday through the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects were apprehended on August 11 and 12, 2025, following intelligence gathered after ransom demands were reported.
Ndukwe said the prime suspect, Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom, used his accomplice to demand a N1,000,000 ransom from the victim’s father, but when the ransom went unmet, he murdered the child and buried him in a bush near their residence.
The police said the suspects confessed to the crime and led operatives to the scene, where the victim’s body was exhumed in the presence of medical personnel.
Ndukwe said: “The child was first reported missing on July 26, 2025. Investigations revealed that the prime suspect used his accomplice to demand N1,000,000 ransom from the victim’s father, in an attempt to disguise his identity.
“When the ransom went unmet, the suspect murdered the child and buried him in a bush near their residence in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi LGA.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime,” Ndukwe said, noting, “The prime suspect thereafter led operatives to the scene, where the victim’s body was exhumed in the presence of medical personnel, including a doctor, who certified the child dead.”
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has commiserated with the bereaved family and assured them that the suspects would be arraigned upon conclusion of investigations.
