The President of the Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru Scholars (FON Scholars) and also the President of the Nigerian Students Association at the University of Greater Manchester, United Kingdom, Comr. Nweze Isaiah Ifeanyi, has publicly expressed deep gratitude to the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his historic commitment to education as clearly enshrined in the People’s Charter of Needs.
According to Comr. Nweze, the Governor’s postgraduate scholarship scheme is not just a political promise, it is a dream made real for 1000 Ebonyi indigenes (700 studying in Nigeria and 300 studying overseas). These beneficiaries are currently rounding off their Master’s degrees and are set to advance directly to their PhD programs, a rare opportunity that will elevate both the individuals and the state at large.
Speaking from the UK, Comr. Nweze said:
“This scholarship has transformed lives, including mine. It is more than financial aid; it is hope, dignity, and a future secured. Without it, many of us would never have been able to stand in world-class classrooms, exchange ideas with global minds, and represent Ebonyi on the international stage.”
He described the Governor’s action as visionary leadership in practice, emphasizing that education remains the most powerful tool to break cycles of poverty and unlock lasting progress.
“Your Excellency, you have kept your word. You have invested in people, not just projects. And that will outlive any monument. Please keep this fire burning because, each graduate is a seed that will multiply the greatness of Ebonyi State,” Comr. Nweze added.
With the first batch of scholars preparing to transition from Master’s to PhD studies, Ebonyi State is now setting a benchmark for other states in Nigeria, proving that visionary governance can put a state on the world map through human capital development.
As the saying goes, when you educate one person, you change a life, but when you educate 1000, you change the future of an entire people. Ebonyi State, under Governor Nwifuru, is living proof of this truth.
