Tinubu’s 2-Year Record Has Surpassed PDP’s Performance Under Obasanjo — Bwala

The Presidency has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s achievements in his first two years in office have exceeded the performance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration from 1999 to 2007.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, stated this in a statement on X(formerly Twitter) on Friday.

He noted that while the PDP under Obasanjo’s administration benefited from a favourable global environment, including foreign debt forgiveness, higher oil output, and international goodwill following the return to democracy, Tinubu has had to contend with tougher economic and political circumstances.

According to Bwala, Tinubu inherited substantial foreign debts which he had been paying, faced lower oil production levels, and worked without the global sympathy and financial support that characterised the early years of the Fourth Republic.

He added that unlike the relative stability of 1999 to 2007, Tinubu assumed office amid heightened insecurity, a situation he claims has been significantly degraded in the past two years.

Bwala further argued that economic mismanagement under the PDP led to a reluctance by successive administrations to take bold corrective measures.

He said Tinubu confronted these challenges head-on, making difficult decisions that, in his view, have put the economy on the path to recovery.

The statement reads, “What President Bola Tinubu @officialABAT has achieved with our country in just two years has surpassed what PDP achieved in 8 years from 1999-2007:

Fact’s

“From 1999-2007 our foreign debts were forgiven, In PBATs case he has had to pay them

“From 1999-2007 Our oil output can be likened to a miracle as compared to what PBAT has had to grapple with

“From 1999-2007 The whole world was looking to our direction with sympathy, support and freebies having come out of military interregnum. In PBATs case he is confronted with the challenge of having to prove himself, and he did with the economy

“From 1999-2007 Nigerians were united in diversity and insecurity was far less than what PBAT found on assuming office. The security was mismanaged by the PDP heads of government resulting in the creation of Boko Haram. PBAT in two years had degraded insecurity to an extent we can see the path to ending it.

“The mismanaged resources that led to the decadence of the economy left successive presidents fearful in taking the tough decision necessary to address it frontally. PBAT took the bullet, made the decision and our economy is safely recovering now.

“The list goes on.”
