A 32-year-old Russian woman, Mariana Barutkina, has reportedly fractured her spine while attempting the viral “Nicki Minaj stiletto challenge”, just weeks after giving birth.
In the now-viral video, Barutkina — a new content creator — is seen trying to squat in heels on a dangerously stacked surface consisting of a baby formula container placed on top of a saucepot, all balanced on a kitchen counter.
The challenge, which mimics a famous pose from Nicki Minaj’s “High School” music video, involves influencers performing stunts in stilettos on risky platforms to capture attention online.
Unfortunately, Mariana lost her balance mid-squat, falling off the counter and injuring her back. She was later diagnosed with a Th9 compression fracture, a serious spinal injury.
“Life Tests You” – Barutkina Reflects After Accident
Despite the pain and aftermath, Barutkina took to social media to share her ordeal and reflect on how life throws unexpected challenges. She admitted the stunt was risky but said she never imagined it could lead to a serious medical condition.
“Sometimes life tests us in the most unexpected ways,” she wrote in a follow-up post.
Barutkina’s accident has reignited online debates about the dangers of viral challenges and the pressures many new influencers face to gain quick fame on social platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
The Nicki Minaj stiletto challenge, originally intended to showcase balance and confidence, has seen numerous failed attempts and close calls, with users performing the pose on chairs, counters, and even glass tables.
Medical professionals are now urging caution, especially for postpartum women, warning that the pelvic and spinal areas remain vulnerable after childbirth.
